Stitch and Spark: Making Mini Robots at Borders Textile Towerhouse

Live Borders Stitch and Spark Workshop

Creative Coathanger Trustee Jules Horne has been helping local children to make mini felt robots with light-up hearts in Stitch and Spark workshops with Live Borders.

The mini maker session brought together hand sewing with bright felts, a simple circuit and a handmade switch.

The children designed their own felt mini robots, and learned basic stitching, in some cases for the first time. Each robot had a handmade switch tucked inside the stuffing, so its “heart” LED would light up when pressed.

The sessions took place at the Borders Textile Towerhouse in Hawick, a historic towerhouse with gallery, displays and activities celebrating the Borders’ textile industry and heritage alongside the work of leading textile designers.

Many thanks to Live Borders and the Hawick Museum and Borders Textile Towerhouse team for their support and warm hospitality.
