Creative Coathanger at Borders College E-Sports Day

The Creative Coathanger team have taken part in the first Scottish Borders E-Sports Day, held at Borders College in Galashiels.

Secondary schools across the region sent e-sports teams to take part in an exciting day of gaming in the campus lecture hall, as well as demos in the new Virtual Reality (VR) room at the college. Jules Horne and Michael Scott presented a demonstration of their interactive Tweed Tweed map, showing the use of simple microcontrollers and conductive textiles to trigger audio clips through capacitive touch.

The E-Sports Development Day at Borders College was supported by Scottish Borders Council, Developing the Young Workforce and the team at Inspire Learning, Tweedbank.

We were also delighted to spend time chatting with British esports legend Michael ‘ODEE’ O’Dell! During his long esports career as player and founder of Team Dignitas, Odee has mentored and coached hundreds of professional esports athletes, and is now Team GB’s E-sports Manager. His inspiring talk to Borders pupils shed a light on opportunities in this new industry for people interested in creative technology and coding.
